what exactly is the Verizon Speed Optimizer tool. Is this some kind of software that is installed on your computer. If so it won't work on mine. I do not use Windows! I use linux. You cannot install software on Linux!

If that is true, I cannot use it. I have Linux as my operating system. The only applications that can be installed, come from Linux depositories.
Kenny, The Verizon FiOS Speed Optimizer tool modifies your TCP/IP configuration to allow your computer to receive data at a faster rate.
The tool tweaks the TCP 1323 extension and modifies the MTU setting.
However you are correct. Verizon FiOS does not support Linux, only Windows and MACs
