Verizon FiOS and External Modems

Verizon FiOS does not require an external modem. FiOS is wired directly to your place of residence and then converted from Fiber to Ethernet and the signal traverses to a jack installed by a Verizon FiOS Technician during installation.

You will then hook your computer or router to the jack via a Cat5/6 cable wire. Your Verizon FiOS High Speed Internet Service will be up and running the day of your installation.

The speed of your internet is controlled by Verizon FiOS who will throttle it thorugh the routers and switches. And they have the ability to raise it to several hundred MBPS if desired. The increase or decrease of this factor will directly affect the speed of your internet.
